The Vanguard Panthers took the field for the first time this season and gave a great effort in a 48-14 loss to All Saints Academy. The Panthers kept the game tight at halftime (21-14), scoring both touchdowns in the first half of play. Junior quarterback Spencer Tergliafera put the team on the board with the first touchdown of the season, a 48-yard jaunt up the left side. Next receiver Mateo Connors got the second Panther touchdown with a 71-yard kickoff return. Unfortunately those were all the bullets in the Panthers' gun tonight and htey were unable to put another score on the board.
QB/MLB Spencer Tergliafera and OL/DL Eric Crofut styled for the camera at the Lakeland Ledger's fall football media day. Tergliafera was the Panthers' Mr. everything last season leading the team in passing, rushing, tackles, and sacks. Crofut, who is the only three year member and starter for the Panthers, was the anchor of the offensive and defensive lines.

A New Day for Panthers' Cheering!
When the Panthers' football team reports for football camp on August 26th, the cheerleading squad will not be far behind! For the first time the Panthers' cheerleading squad will be returning early to prepare for the 2010 sports season. New head cheer coach Kami Land, with the support of the administration, decided to bring the team back early in hopes of building more cohesion between the members of the squad and bolstering their relationship with the other athletic teams, starting with football. They will return on the September 3rd. It will be exciting to see the cheerleaders at the first competition of the year and watch them grow throughout the seasons.
One Week and Counting..........
Although most other high school football teams have been practicing for almost two weeks the Panthers have been patiently waiting for their time to get back on the football field. "The excitement is in the air," head coach Gene Clemons stated, "Everybody is anxious to get back to work and we don't have long!"
The Panthers will be back to work on Thursday August 26th when they are shceduled to report to school. Their first practice is scheduled for Thursday night and their first game will be fast approaching the following week on September 3rd versus All Saints Academy.
The opener, which was scheduled to be an away game, will be played at Vanguard because the turf field being installed at All Saints will not be ready in time for the September 3rd budding rivalry.
Summer means downtime for Panthers but Football Camp is fast-approaching!
Of course we all hope that summer is going well and everyone is enjoying the time off! We also understand that our competition for the 2010 season is prepapring themselves for the coming season and we must do the same. Some panthers have workouts as they try to better themselves over the summertime. We will be reporting for camp on the 26th of August! We will have exactly one week to prepare for our first game of the season against All Saints Academy on September 3rd! If anyone is interested in playing or want to workout over the summer you can email coach Clemons at gene.clemons@vanguardschool.org
Go Panthers!
Panthers' 2010 Football Schedule is finally complete!
After a move of classification to independent the Panthers had to fill several positions in the schedule and the independent classification will allow the Panthers to travel and experience many different areas in Florida. The Schedule is highlighted by six road games one of which is the season opener (9/3) versus All Saints.
The proximity of the two schools make All Saints and Vanguard natural rivals. They have competed against in other sports for years and now that rivalry will spread to the football field. This is sure to become an annual meeting between the two schools.
Homecoming will be on October 7th at 4pm versus The David Posnack Hebrew Day School.
The season will come to an end on November 12th, Senior Night, against South Florida Prep at 7 in the evening!
We look forward to seeing Panther Country supporting our 2010 squad!
Thank you again to everyone who has shown support and please continue to motivate our young men and women to be involved in athletics as it is a vital part of the growth of Vanguard and their personal growth as well. I know there are students here that should be involved they just need the proper motivation and that might be your encouraging words. If you know of students who are interested and might just be shy about coming out to prticipate please let Coach Clemons, Coach Ditman, or Coach Trammell know.
